After a two-year hiatus due to Covid-19 restrictions, the residents of Corrandulla and beyond were overjoyed and filled with anticipation as their beloved agricultural show made a triumphant return in 2022. Corrandulla Show 2022 proved to be an enormous success, attracting the largest crowd ever seen and offering a delightful array of entertainment options.

This Sunday, it is back for the 2023 version.

Renowned as one of the country’s most popular agricultural shows, Corrandulla Show consistently draws over 10,000 visitors to the village on the fourth Sunday of June each year. It exemplifies the essence of a modern country show, including a diverse range of activities and features for people of all ages to enjoy.

In addition to the traditional show attractions, attendees can delight in complimentary children’s entertainment sponsored by St Jarlath’s Credit Union, explore a wide selection of market stalls, revel in the amusement park, and indulge in various other captivating novelties.

All the festivities unfold in the Parish field, conveniently located adjacent to the hall. Throughout the day, a running commentary will keep everyone informed about the main events and attractions, while a large screen will be provided for those interested in catching the GAA games. Last year, one of the most exhilarating additions to the show was the Leonard Catering-sponsored Music Marquee, which brimmed with excitement all day.

This year, the Marquee is set to come alive with lively music and non-stop dancing. DJ Freebird will grace the stage throughout the day, while the renowned Sandra Ganley will lead a free Jive class at noon, followed by captivating performances from Kevin & Fintan starting at 1pm. At 3pm, the immensely popular Stuart Moyles will take centre stage, so make sure to dust off your dancing shoes and make your way to Corrandulla! While in the vicinity, don’t miss the Market Stalls, where the finest locally produced food and crafts will be showcased. And be sure to witness the much-loved O’Connell’s Pharmacy-sponsored Dog Show, an absolute must-see!

For a wonderful display of various “Baking & Arts & Craft Classes,” head to the hall. There, you’ll discover an extensive array of competitions catering to both the nimble-fingered artisans and the green-thumbed enthusiasts, regardless of age. The Old hall is the venue for the Bonny Baby show and the Little Miss and Little Mister competitions which takes place at 1pm. Plan your visit between 12pm and 1pm to register your child and enjoy a delightful performance by the Claregalway Community Choir. And if you have a grá for history, a visit to the Heritage display in the Old Girl’s School is highly recommended. Knowledgeable members will be available to engage in discussions on genealogy and historical matters related to the area.

The Cattle Showing section of the show continues to flourish and now includes Friesian and Aberdeen Angus Classes. While the popular Nutrias Baby Beef Competition, boasting a generous prize fund of €1000, is expected to attract top-class cattle from all corners. St Jarlath’s Credit Union takes pride in sponsoring the Cattle Championship and the Young Stock Person Section.

This year, the extensive Sheep Show returns with classes for most popular breeds, along with a Young Handlers class and a “Fancy Dressed Pet Lamb with a Bottle” category. Let’s not forget the Goats—three classes are dedicated to these magnificent creatures, ensuring there’s something for everyone in the audience! And be sure not to overlook the Poultry section, showcasing classes for every breed imaginable. You’ll find them on display near the cattle section, with the new addition of Egg Classes also featured in the poultry tent. The much-loved Pet classes, adored by little children, can also be found in the Poultry Tent.

The Connemara Pony classes have consistently garnered strong support, and the Ridden Connemara and Open Ridden classes remain very popular with competitors. Responding to popular demand, the Irish Draft and Non-Thoroughbred Mare and Foal classes make a triumphant return again this year.

In the realm of Show Jumping, the Kenny Motors-sponsored Connacht Grand Prix always captivates spectators, and this year promises an additional thrill with the inclusion of the Puissance, famously known as the “High Wall.” Generously sponsored by Harrington Concrete, this spectacle is sure to be a highlight of the event. Show Jumping activities kick off at 9 am, guaranteeing a day full of action and excitement. Corrandulla’s free-draining, limestone land, coupled with the generosity of its landowners who provide unrestricted access to immaculate grounds, creates the perfect environment for top-notch show jumping.

Corrandulla Show is not only a remarkable display of agricultural excellence but also a remarkable community initiative.
