Cllr Alan Cheevers is urging Galway City Council to urgently examine its current policy regarding grass cutting and landscaping services in council-managed estates.
Under the current rules, council estates that were taken in charge by the Council from 2022 onwards are excluded from receiving grass cutting and landscaping services. In contrast, older estates continue to benefit from these essential services.
“This policy is fundamentally unfair,” said Cllr Cheevers. “Residents in these newer estates are rent payers and property tax payers, just like those in older estates. They deserve equal treatment and the same standard of maintenance in their communities.”
Cllr Cheevers is calling for a policy review to ensure equality and fairness for all council tenants and residents in taken-in-charge estates, regardless of the year the estate was accepted by the Council.
“This is about respect for all residents and the need to provide consistent public services across the city,” he added.
