The Leaving Cert and Junior Cert exams are just around the corner, and now is the time for students to focus on effective, structured revision. This final period can make a big difference through smart, consistent effort. Here are seven study tips I would recommend to help:

1. Limit distractions

Where you study is vitally important. Some students may decide to study in the university, school or the local library. You chose what works best for you. Create a quiet, clutter-free study space with natural light and fresh air. Keep your phone in another room.

2. Plan your study

Break your remaining time into realistic, focused sessions. Prioritise subjects and topics that need more attention.

3. Short, focused study blocks

Set a specific start time to begin your study. Study in intervals with short breaks in between. This improves concentration, boosts energy and keeps fatigue at bay.

4. Active study

Avoid simply reading notes. Use flashcards, mind maps, quizzes, spider diagrams or explain topics aloud to a family member.

5. Past papers are key

Exam papers are your best preparation tool. Practice under timed conditions to get used to question styles and time pressure. All past papers and solutions are available on examinations.ie

6. Take care of yourself

Eat well, stay hydrated (drink two litres of water a day ), take regular exercise, and get seven to nine hours of sleep at night. A healthy routine supports better memory and focus.

7. Stay positive and confident

Believe in your preparation. Stay calm, take things one step at a time, and trust and be confident in the work you’ve put in.

This final period is your opportunity to consolidate knowledge and sharpen exam technique. You will do great!
