Flaggy Shore Beach

Flaggy Shore Beach

Every once in a while, the west of Ireland is graced with a sunny day, and what better way to spend that miraculous day than with a trip to one of the many beaches in Clare? Discover three of the best beaches along the Wild Atlantic Way below, so you are prepared for when the sun does show.

Lahinch Blue Flag Beach: Hosting an abundance of activities on site, Lahinch beach is without a doubt one for the whole family to enjoy. The golden sands that stretch around Liscannor Bay are a perfect spot for relaxing seaside and soaking up the sun. Surfing, swimming, kite surfing, and sea kayaking are just some of the water sports available to those who need to keep moving throughout the day. If it gets a bit chilly, enjoy the sauna and steam room in the leisure centre across from the beach. The park is well equipped for all children if they need to let off a little steam before the journey back home.

Fanore Beach: A beautiful beach for enjoying the sun, the sandy beach and dunes make for a wonderful day out surrounded by nature on the cusp of the Wild Atlantic Way. Aloha Surf School is on-site for those who wish to try their luck on the waves of Fanore. When the sand becomes too much, but you are not quite ready to head home, numerous walking trails start and end at the Fanore Beach car park. The Black Head Loop of the Burren is a five-to-six-hour hike that takes you through the best bits of the region. The Caher Valley Loop Walk is slightly shorter but no less breathtaking as you walk for three to four hours up the Caher Valley before following an elevated green road.

Flaggy Shore: The small beach of Flaggy Shore is not one to be overlooked as you discover the Wild Atlantic Way. Despite its small sandy front, the walk along the sea makes up for it. With Linnalla Irish Ice Cream café and Flaggy Shore information centre at the end of the walk, you will be enticed to walk the whole way for some Irish ice cream to cool you down. The Russell Gallery of Fine Art is full of paintings and Irish products alongside their café for you to take home as a reminder of your Flaggy Shore adventure. Finish the day with a plunge in the Atlantic Ocean.
