Castlegar AC puts in strong performances over the weekend

Castlegar AC were well-represented at the World Masters Indoors and the 123.ie National Juvenile Indoor Track & Field Championships 2025, putting in strong performances at both events which took place last weekend.

World Masters Indoors on March 29

Sean McDermott and Ian Egan took part in the World Masters Indoors in Florida and finished the 10km road race in 75th and 76th place in a time of 43.11 and 43.14 respectively.

Ian was also part of the Irish M45 team that won world silver medals.

The competition, held in Athlone, showcased a thrilling display of talent and determination and some new personal bests were achieved.

Enthusiastic performance by Maisy Bo Joyce in the U14 girls 800m. Maisy only started athletics last autumn and she has grown in leaps and bounds. Reaching the All-Ireland stage in such a short timeframe is some achievement and she ran a brilliant 2.39.

Isobelle Conroy was on fire in the U18 800m. She achieved a new PB of 2.27 finishing sixth in her heat and 12th overall. Isobelle is improving with every race and is learning from every experience.

There was an impressive performance by Darragh Wall in the U14 Shot Putt. It was his first time in an All-Ireland and he marked it by throwing a PB of 9.30, finishing 10th overall.

It was also Mattie Cullinan's first time on the All-Ireland stage. Mattie performed brilliant throwing a superb 7.69. Castlegar AC extends thanks to Iain Shaw of Athenry Juvenile AC for assisting both Mattie and Darragh with their preparation for the competition.

Elly Turner who ran a thrilling 5.11 in the U16 1500m, finished fifth in her heat after a great performance.

Jacob Leahy in the U12 60m ran an inspiring 9.23 to finish fifth in his heat. A super performance for his first time at the All-Ireland Stage.

Ciara Murphy showcased her talents as a sprinter in the U13 60m, running a new PB of 8.52 finishing third in her heat.

Cliodhna Ni Chonaill took silver in the U16 1500m race walk in 7.35 which is an improved 5 sec PB. Cliodhna's technique and focused determination has been consistently improving all season and she got her just rewards.
