US poet wins fellowship to work with Galway poet

US poet and creative writing teacher Lisa C Taylor has been awarded a fellowship to travel to Ireland to collaborate with Galway poet and short story writer Geraldine Mills.

Ms Taylor, who has published three collections of poetry and teaches creative writing at the Arts for Capitol Theatre and Eastern Connecticut State University, was awarded the fellowship from Surdna, a national foundation aimed at strengthening the artistic abilities of students and supporting the artistic creativity of arts teachers.

Both poets will work on a poetry collaboration around the theme of language and landscape. It will touch on Irish and Native American folklore and the geographical perspective of their respective countries.

The fellowship also supports post-fellowship writing activities and Ms Mills will travel to Connecticut in October for workshops with ACT students.

Two further components in the follow up will be an exchange creative writing programme between Ms Taylor’s students and Galway secondary school students and a video diary of her experiences.
