The Galway Lions Club has announced the appointment of Muireann Ryan as the new President during a memorable Handover ceremony held recently. The event, attended by club members, community leaders, friends, and family of Lions, marked a significant milestone in the club’s ongoing commitment to service, health and wellbeing, and community development in the city.

Muireann Ryan brings a wealth of experience and a deep passion for community service to the role. Having been an active member of the Lions Club for some years, she has played a part of the club’s numerous successful projects and initiatives that have positively impacted the local community.

In her inaugural address, the new president expressed gratitude for the trust placed in her and outlined a vision for the upcoming year.

“I am honoured to serve as the Galway Lions Club President. Together, we will continue to build on our strong foundation, expand our outreach, and make a meaningful difference in the lives of those we serve. Serving the people of our community who are in need, is core to our purpose” she said. She emphasized the importance of community service and the impact of the Lions Club’s work.

The outgoing President, Frank O Neill was also recognized for his leadership and dedication over the past year. Under Frank’s guidance, the club achieved significant milestones, including the annual charity auction, which is one of the club’s biggest fundraisers each year. This is run in conjunction with Galway Bay FM as part of the Galway Lions Club Christmas appeal in the lead-up to Christmas.

The handover ceremony was a celebration of the club’s achievements and a look forward to future endeavors. The Galway Lions Club continues to be a beacon of hope and support in the community, addressing critical needs through various service projects, including food voucher distribution for those in need, student access support for third-level education, additional support services for children in primary and secondary school, individual family support cases, community service for homeless and suicide prevention in conjunction with the HSE.

Funds raised by the Galway Lions Club go directly back into our community in Galway, with all members and officers giving their time and service on a fully voluntary basis.
