Conboy Electrical — recycling before it was trendy

There is many an electrical appliance around Galway and the west that has to be thankful to Conboy Electrical for its long life. For six decades, the Galway store has been servicing and repairing electrical goods that were in need of parts or some gentle care.

Now based exclusively in their original New Road premises, (H91 WP30 ) just down past Mill St Garda Station and minutes from the centre of town, Conboy Electrical is continuing to be the service provider of choice for repairing your electrical appliance.

In one sense, the repair of such goods has contributed to the concept of the circular economy that is so in vogue at the moment.

Speaking to the Advertiser, Jacqui Conboy said that the company was recycling before it became trendy.

"We have a team in the workshop, including my dad George who is 88, repairing and making good, the electrical items that just need a part or a repair in order to be in full working order again.

“So many appliances have had their use-life extended by just popping in to us," she said. Conboy Electrical was based at Woodquay for two decades, but when the store closed for lockdown, they took the decision to not reopen it and instead focus all their activities in their original location in New Road.

“We still get calls from people wondering where we are, as not a lot of people know exactly where New Road is. The simplest thing is that you go down by Mill St garda station and take the second left there, that’s where we are. It is just a few minutes walk from Shop Street,” she said.

Jacqui added that they also advise people who are looking to fit out a rental property or it they are installing a new kitchen.

“Galway has a lot of tenants and students and Conboy Electrical has a great tradition of advising people about the goods that are specific to their needs and budget,” she said. If you are looking to update kitchen appliances or are in the process of remodelling your home or a rental unit, G Conboy Electrical carries a wide range of new appliances including washers, dryers, 60cm cookers, dishwashers, vacuum cleaners, fridge freezers, and smaller electrical items such as radios, hairdryers, and cooling fans.
