Swimmers selected for Olympics

Three Galway swimmers have been selected to represent Ireland at the Special Olympics World games in Berlin this month.

Members of the Tribes Swimming, the trio are the first from the club in more than 15 years to represent Team Ireland.

Patricia Larkin is selected to represent Team Ireland in swimming, and both Liam Hynes and Michelle O’Keane have been selected for kayaking.

The club, with both junior and senior swimmers train in Leisureland Salthill every Wednesday night boasting more than 40 athletes with intellectual disability. The senior Tribes caters for predominately lane swimming athletes from 18 upwards, while the junior Tribes caters for athletes at all ages and ability from non-swimmers to developing and lane swimmers.
