The Clifden Traditional Music Festival takes place this week.

The 12th Annual Clifden Traditional Music Festival will take place this year from Thursday April 13 to Sunday April 16 in Clifden, Connemara. The event will feature a host of artists from all over Ireland as well as lots of local talent.

Today, Thursday, the festival will begin with a Seisiun na nOg in the Woodfield Hotel. Friday will begin early, with the Scoil Mhuire Marching Band performing on the Town Square at 11am. Later on Friday, the Official Opening and Concert will take place in the Clifden Station House Theatre at 7pm.

On Saturday, there'll be a range of music workshops and music sessions including musicians like Anthony Kavanagh (Banjo ), John Carroll (Accordion ), Paul Clesham (Piano ) and the full Blackwater Ceili Band from Tyrone.

A highlight of the festival will be an outdoor gig on Saturday night at 7.30pm. This year, The Blackwater Ceili Band will headline.

The Clifden Trad Fest 5K Run will also take place, starting in the Town Centre at 2pm on Saturday.

As always, people are encouraged to come along and experience what should be a great weekend of music, song and dance.
