GTI to hold open day on Tuesday, March 7

Galway Technical Institute has announced that its annual open day will take place this year on Tuesday, March 7, from 9am to 4pm, providing an opportunity for all prospective learners to view the facilities, speak with staff and students, and have any queries addressed on the day.

We live at a time when planning for the future poses greater challenges than ever. People today must be ready to face many career shifts over their working lives. Galway Technical Institute is dedicated to develop in its students the knowledge and skills needed to prepare for a future in these challenging times. All GTI courses are designed to be of immediate and practical use in the workplace or as a pathway to further study and higher education.

GTI provides the launch pad for learners to enter the workplace, start an apprenticeship, or progress to further and higher education. A one-year full-time programme at GTI offers learners the breathing space to explore their future options while gaining valuable skills and qualifications. Check out www.gti.ie to view the extensive range of programmes for autumn 2023.

New for 2023 are a number of pre-university programmes geared towards providing learners with a foundation in arts, science, engineering, and law prior to deciding on a three or four-year degree course.

Applicants who successfully complete their course at GTI and achieve the necessary entry requirements can apply for more than 250 reserved QQI places in University of Galway. Places are offered on a competitive basis and are open to holders of relevant QQI awards. Equally all Level 5 courses at GTI link in with degree programmes in ATU and other technological universities in Ireland.

Other new courses include physiotherapy assistant, advanced beauty and aesthetics, assistant occupational therapist, global media and online journalism, advanced animal care, and pre-university courses in arts, science, law, and engineering. Students can apply through CAO or at www.gti.ie

Principal Geraldine Gibbons said: "For many students the leap from second level into the vastness of third level can be daunting, even when a young person is sure of what it is they wish to study. More and more students are now taking an opportunity to explore all the options that are now available to them in the further education and training sector. Courses which provide a blend of work placements, practical and applied learning are capturing the attention of students and employers. Furthermore, further education courses qualify for SUSI grants and fees are a fraction of that in the third level sector. PLC courses are also the ideal pathway to a future career in many sectors such as the accounting technician apprenticeship, currently running in GTI."

For those interested in gaining a qualification and commencing work, GTI offers courses in business, social care, beauty therapy, hairdressing, animal care/science – dog grooming, special needs assisting, nursing and healthcare.

GTI welcomes applications from both school leavers and mature learners who wish to retrain or upskill. Visit the GTI website for full details of all courses. Applications can be made directly on GTI’s website at www.gti.ie or at www.fetch.ie
