Report finds University of Galway sixth most expensive in EU due to cost of living

University of Galway is the sixth most expensive in the EU for international students, according to a new report.

The Credit Summit list of the best (but least affordable ) universities examined a range of factors including accommodation costs, college fees, loan availability, and other factors such as average rent and food costs to rank universities across the EU in terms of affordability for international students.

The report also ranked Galway as the safest Irish city to live in.

Credit Summit, a US-based oraganistion which helps people in debt, including student debt, ranked universities across the EU in terms of affordability, with Trinity College Dublin identified as the most expensive across the region.

London’s Imperial College was deemed the second most expensive, followed by Technical University Munich, The Free University of Berlin, Cardiff University, and University of Galway.

To calculate the list, Credit Summit analysed some of the top college towns in the EU, looking at costs of food, tuition, fees, accommodation, travel, and entertainment costs per city.

“For many people, going to college can be a stressful experience as well as an educational one, partially due to the financial pressures involved,” said Carter Seuthe, CEO of Credit Summit. “There are many options when it comes to further education, including looking at opportunities and scholarships abroad to prevent from heading into debt.”
