Tesco colleagues and customers nationwide delivered the most successful Annual Food Appeal in its 10-year history in recent days. The annual Food Appeal in-store and online saw customers donate €230,000 worth of food and essential household items to support local community organisations, in partnership with FoodCloud. To further support those in need this Christmas, Tesco has topped up the Appeal with a 20% bulk donation of food, meaning over €275,000 worth of food and household necessities will be donated to communities nationwide.

In Galway, €16,607 worth of non-perishable food and household items were collected and will go towards causes in the county including Ballinasloe Christian Fellowship, NUIG Pantry and SVP Galway.

In-store, volunteers from organisations collected the items donated over three days (2nd, 3rd and 4th Dec ) and will now distribute them to local individuals and families most in need. The top-up donation made by Tesco will be distributed by FoodCloud Hubs in Dublin, Cork and Galway.

Natasha Adams, Tesco Ireland CEO said “We’re very aware that many families are under a lot of pressure this year. Our partners at FoodCloud are redistributing twice the amount of food since pre-pandemic levels and the demand for food is growing. As an extra little help this Christmas, we want to give our support to these communities and will top up the Christmas Food Appeal food donations by 20% to support those in need. Thank you to all our customers and colleagues who donated over the weekend, as together, these donations make a real difference in supporting our communities.”
