Gift a Dog’s Dinner to a MADRA rescue dog this Christmas

Puppies Ted, Tia, Toby, Tara and Tommy were born in foster care after their young mum Tilly was abandoned while heavily pregnant. Luckily for her, she was rescued by MADRA (Mutts Anonymous Dog Rescue and Adoption ) and instead of giving birth on the side of a road, her puppies were born in the comfort of a loving foster home.

It has been a ruff year again for all, but a special gang of MADRA hounds would really benefit from a Dog’s Dinner with a difference this Christmas!

A donation of just €5 will buy a Christmas dinner for a MADRA rescue dog (along with a tasty treat for dessert ) and purchasers can download and print a Gift Certificate, which also makes a wonderful Christmas present.

MADRA normally rescues and rehomes around 400 dogs every year but this year has taken in significantly more than that. There was an unprecedented amount of dog breeding during the pandemic to meet the surge in demand for puppies but as people’s lives go back to pre-Covid routines, many dogs bought during lockdown are no longer wanted and are ending up in rescues and pounds across the country. Many of these rescues and pounds have had to close their doors due to the sheer quantity of unwanted dogs.

The team at MADRA remain determined to stay open and to continue helping as many dogs as is physically possible. This is putting a huge strain on resources and now more than ever, their fundraising initiatives such as the ‘Dog’s Dinner’ are vital.

Looking for Christmas decorations, or other gift ideas for the animal lovers in your life? The MADRA.ie online store, and shop in Moycullen offer a range of wonderful gift options. Firm favourites include their MADRA hoodies, beanie hats and the ever-popular MADRA Calendar, along with a Christmas edition of their MADRA socks. There is also a wonderful selection of handmade craft items such as dog beds and toys giving new life to old duvets and materials donated to the shop.

You can also buy tickets for MADRA’s Annual Mega Raffle online or in the shop. An incredible collection of fabulous prizes has been donated by businesses and supporters throughout Galway and the winners will be drawn by MADRA Ambassador, Sharon Shannon on Monday 12 December.
