The Irish Guide Dogs for the Blind were presented with a cheque for over €8,000 at the PorterShed, Bowling Green, on Friday.

The cheque presentation marked over one month since the PorterShed community took part in a skydive to raise funds for the charity.

A number of weeks ago, the PorterShed community gathered together to channel their inner daredevils in a skydive for the great cause - and they managed to raise some €8,180.

As many as nine people took part in the skydive, which saw them jump out of a plane from 13,000ft - and the whole community got together to support them, giving donations in their droves.

Frank Downes, Chairman of the Galway branch, was in attendance to accept the cheque on behalf of the charity, and his son Andrew also joined him along with PorterShed Office Manager Aoife Cheung and community member Barry Gilhooly.
