Connacht Junior Cup semi-final should be interesting

Salthill Devon host Athenry

The top two in the Galway FA premier division, Salthill Devon and Athenry, clash in a Connacht Junior Cup semi-final at Drom on Sunday (2pm ).

It promises to be an intriguing clash involving well organised teams, who have set a high standard locally.

Salthill's league game away to West United was postponed on Sunday morning ensuring that Athenry are perched on the summit with seven matches remaining.

Victor Collins' charges' schedule is packed with matches in various competitions, but this weekend's test against Athenry will be revealing.

On Saturday Colemanstown United and Corrib Rangers registered crucial triumphs over Galway Hibernians and Tuam Celtic.

Tomas Flannery bagged a brace as a battling Colemanstown outfit overcame Hibs 2-0.

Rangers did enough to edge out Tuam Celtic 4-3 with Geoffrey Power (2 ), Hamza Celik, and Dave Fortune on target, while Mike Swinhoe clipped a hat-trick for Tuam.

This weekend Colemanstown are at home to Maree-Oranmore on Saturday.

The following day Mervue will be hoping to close the gap on Athenry and Salthill by beating St Bernard's.

West host Hibs at O'Connor Park and Loughrea's clash with Rangers carries deep significance in the afternoon.
