Rhiannon Giddens headlines new music series on TG4 player

CUMASC: Seisiúin sa Black Gate to also feature Daithi, Anna Mullarkey, Seamus Begley, Inni-K, and David Kitt

GRAMMY-AWARD winning American musician, Rhiannon Giddens, will be among the performers in a new music series, which launches on Friday February 11, on the TG4 Player.

CUMASC: Seisiúin sa Black Gate is a 12-part series mixing concert film, with intimate observational documentary, and interviews, recorded live at The Black Gate Cultural Centre on St Francis Street.

The first episode will feature Rhiannon Giddens, Italian composer, Francesco Turrisi, and Connemara-born sean-nós singer, Róisín Elsafty, in an inventive collaboration that draws from three distinct folk traditions.

Other collaborations in the series will be an improvisational set from electronic musician and producer Daithí with vocalist, songwriter, and violinist Suzanne Savage, and Liam Ó Maonlaí, Niwel Tsumbu, and Eamonn Cagney in discussion and performance.

There will also be a set from American singer-songwriter Sam Amidon, in a boat on the River Corrib, while singer-songwriter John Conneely and soulful performer Síomha will sing old classics in old castles.

The series will also feature Rachael Lavelle, Peter Broderick, Seamus Begley, Junior Brother, Seamie O’Dowd, Daoirí Farrell, Anna Mullarkey, David Kitt, Colm Mac Con Iomaire, Arborist, John Blek, Inni-K, Jinx Lennon, and The Mary Wallopers.

CUMASC: Seisiúin sa Black Gate was commissioned for TG4 under the Broadcasting Authority of Ireland's Live Music Sector funding stream to support the sector as a result of Covid-19. The series will broadcast at a later date on TG4.
