Higgins welcomes new bins on Salthill Prom

Despite welcome for new litter management facilities, councillor says there can be “no substitute for personal responsibility”

New bins along the Salthill promenade are welcome, but there can be no substitute for personal responsibility and ensuring that litter is discarded appropriately".

This is the view of Fine Gael Galway City West councillor, Clodagh Higgins, who requested the installation of the new bins in May.

She had called on the Galway City Council to invest in larger bins with larger openings to accommodate pizza boxes, and similar such packaging, given that, in some instances “bins that were overflowing were not actually full but blocked by pizza boxes”.

The bins were procured in June and have now been installed around Salthill. “The addition of these fit-for-purpose bins will greatly assist in solving the litter issue that sometimes arises,” she said. “However, I would also urge visitors that there is no substitute for personal responsibility and ensuring that litter is discarded appropriately.”
