What is your idea of perfect happiness?

A good book, a cozy fire, and a nice cup of tea!

Which historical figure do you most identify with?

Donald Gow - one of the only Scottish trad cellists mentioned in history!

Which living person do you most admire?

Laura Risk, amazing friend and colleague - fiddler, ethnomusicologist, mom, and one of the smartest and most compassionate people I know.

Which is the trait you most deplore in yourself?

Procrastination and lack of ambition.

What is your greatest extravagance?

Pedicures (pre-pandemic of course! ).

What is your favourite journey?

Driving Highway 1 up the coast of California.

On what occasion do you lie?

When it will save someone from harm.

Which living person do you most despise?

Donald Trump of course!

What or who is the greatest love of your life?

My cello - been with me through it all.

When and where were you happiest?

As a child in my parents’ backyard.

Which talent would you most like to have?

Making pottery.

What is your current state of mind?

Excited for this s***e to end so we can all hug each other and travel again.

What do you consider your greatest achievement?

Training loads of young cellists at fiddle camps in the way of trad.

If you were to die and come back as a person or a thing, what do you think it would be?

Sea otter (I hope! ).

What is your most treasured possession?

My cello.

What do you regard as the lowest depth of misery?

Being cold!

What is your favourite occupation?

Being outdoors on a hike enjoying nature.

What is the quality you most like in a man?

Sense of humor.

What is the quality you most like in a woman?

Capability.

Who are your favourite writers?

Jane Austen and Helen Fielding.

What is your motto?

No pain, no gain.
