Top European e-Scooter company Dott to roll out in Galway

Leading European e-scooter company Dott today officially announced their interest in entering the Galway market, following confirmation from Minister Eamon Ryan that e-scooters will be regulated for use on Irish roads.

Founded in 2018, the Amsterdam based company has already become one of Europe’s best established e-scooter companies, operating 30,000 e-scooters across 16 European cities, including Munich, Brussels and Rome. Last year, the company won micromobility tenders in Paris and Lyon, ranking first in both, and it now intends to enter the market in Dublin and then to Galway, Limerick and Cork. The company is soon launching their new e-bike model in London and Paris.

Dott places a strong emphasis on safety and sustainability. The company recently recommended in a letter to Minister Eamon Ryan to implement a number of mandatory safety measures and sustainability standards that it had seen work effectively in other European cities. The safety measure recommendations for the use of e-scooters on Irish roads includes a minimum age of 16 years, compulsory helmets for those aged between 16 and 18, an upper speed limit of 25 kmph, a requirement for designated parking zones and a need for scheme providers to provide comprehensive insurance for riders. Dott also puts special measures in place to ensure their e-scooters are parked in dedicated bays.

Henri Moissinac , CEO and Co-Founder of Dott, said that Ireland is the ideal location for Dott’s expansion.

“Our e-scooters make it easier to get around, reduce pollution and provide a great complementary service to public transport. We are really happy to see that the Irish government is moving ahead with its plans to regulate the use of e-scooters on Irish roads and we are excited at the opportunity to bring Dott’s best-in-class e-scooter technology that has been used in other European capitals to Dublin and beyond,” he said.

Duncan Robertson, General Manager for UK & Ireland Region for Dott, said the company is excited to work with local councils and stakeholders to provide mobility solutions: “Dott is committed to tailoring our deployments to match the needs of each location. We have already had great conversations on the ground in different cities in Ireland and we look forward to engaging with more local stakeholders to ensure that our deployments in Ireland are as successful as our others across multiple European capitals and cities to date.”

Dott’s e-scooters have already proven to be a very popular mode of transport in other European cities. For example, after 2 years in Brussels, Dott’s e scooters have been used by 150,000 riders, clocking up 3.6 million kilometres of city travel. Dott’s popularity is also growing rapidly, with the use of their scooters increasing 300% in the Belgian capital between July 2019 and July 2020. Dott are ensuring more liveable, less congested cities across Europe.

Dott is a European micromobility operator founded by Maxim Romain and Henri Moissinac. Dott’s mission is to free our cities with e-scooter solutions. Dott currently operates over 30,000 e-scooters in 16 top cities in Belgium, France, Germany, Italy and Poland. In July 2020, Dott won two of the biggest micromobility tenders in Europe, in Paris and in Lyon.

Dott have made environmental excellence a priority in their development. Dott’s unique approach is based on custom-designed long-lasting vehicles, the tracking and optimization of their services, and e-vans/e-cargo bikes for operations. The company repairs everything and recycles that which cannot be repaired. Dott achieved carbon neutrality since January 2019 and reduced their carbon footprint by 56% in 2020, compared to the previous year.

Dott is committed to working with local cities to achieve optimal solutions. The company operates 100% of the service with its own local full-time employees, rather than relying on the gig economy or local contractors. This brings additional safety, reliability for the city, and much better overall user experience. Deployments are carefully managed in each city and launches take place one at a time, so as to ensure they are tailored to the needs of each city.
