GMIT to hold virtual information evening for further education and mature students

GMIT will host a virtual open evening on Thursday, January 21, from 6pm to 8pm, for those keen to learn more about progressing from further education (FE ) and post Leaving Cert (PLC ) courses to GMIT. The event will also be of particular interest to mature students. The Pathways to GMIT event will provide information on all entry routes to GMIT, including CAO courses, part-time, and online courses on offer in all GMIT’s campuses in Galway and Mayo.

Embracing new pathways to connect with new students, GMIT has hosted several virtual live events over the last few months, with huge success. Over the course of the two-hour event, participants can listen to GMIT's experts, ask questions, and get immediate answers. GMIT staff will be sharing up-to-date information on crucial topics like how to apply to GMIT, employment opportunities for graduates, student supports, career options, and an introduction to GMIT’s part-time and online courses.

“We have had to shift gears rapidly over the last few months, to react and respond by launching all our events through an online platform," said Móna Wise, GMIT schools liaison officer. "This has opened many doorways for us, allowing greater access to new students both near and afar. We are excited for the new academic year and look forward to helping anyone interested in finding their pathway to third level education right here at GMIT.

"As a former mature student, I understand the challenges many people face when they start to consider the notion of applying to college. Taking the first step, attending our virtual event will not only help set things in motion but also reassure incoming students that we are here to help. Many come in directly via the CAO by having completed a Level 5 or 6 FE course, which lays a wonderful foundation for third level study. Mature students may come at it from a different angle, whereby skills have been developed and enhanced via their work and life experiences. The door is open to all and we are waiting to offer a hearty welcome to anyone ready to take the plunge into third level education this year.”

Dr Ian O’Connor, head of Department of Graduate Studies and Professional Development, added: “GMIT provides a wide range of learning opportunities, from short courses to diplomas, degrees, and postgraduate courses. These are available on a full and part-time basis and many are offered at a reduced fee through Springboard+ and other Government-funded programmes. The team in the Department of Graduate Studies and Professional Development will be delighted to answer any questions you may have at our Pathways event on 21 January.”
