Boost for Galway’s Gaeltacht with €500,000 funding for eight projects

Eight projects in the County Galway Gaeltacht, are set to benefit from €500,000 in Government funding, with one of the main beneficiaries being a new community centre on Inis Meáin.

The funding was confirmed by Ministers Catherine Martin and Jack Chambers of the Department of Tourism, Culture, Arts, Gaeltacht, Sports and Media and aims to support community organisations and groups in Gaeltacht communities.

The community centre on Inis Meáin is to receive more than €420,000. Other allocations include €8,618 for Naíolann na nOileán C/O Mhuintearas, for equipment for a Montessori room; €17,124 for CLG An Spidéil for equipment; €2,650 for Comharchumann Mhic Dara for smart electric radiators; €7,454 for CLG Na Ceathrún Rua for a new tractor and benches for the football pitch; €17,638 for CLG Bhearna for goal posts and related works; €15,738 for Comharchumann Dhúiche Sheoigheach for works on the roof of the centre; and €3,000 for Cumann Forbartha Chois Fharraige.

The funding has been welcomed by Seán Kyne, the Fine Gael Senator in Galway and Seanad spokesperson for Public Expenditure and Reform and Gaeltacht Affairs.
