Celebrate the Irish harp at Galway City Museum

Exhibitions, talks, and concerts involving Ireland's national instrument

THE HARP, Ireland's national instrument, will be celebrated in the Galway City Museum this Saturday from 10.30am, with exhibitions, talks, and concerts.

From 10.30 to 12 noon, there will be a display of Irish harps made by Paul Dooley, Callan Harps, and Eriú harps; from 12 noon to 1pm, harp students of all ages and levels can take to the stage to demonstrate Ireland’s harping heritage; at 2pm, leading harpist Kathleen Loughnane, will give a talk on the manuscripts of Patrick O’Neill (1765-1832 ), which give an insight into the eclectic range of popular music in south Tipperary/Kilkenny in the late 18th and early 19th centuries.

From 3pm to 4.30pm, in association with Cruit Éireann, there will be a concert with Paul Dooley, Kathleen Loughnane, Úna Ní Fhlannagáin, Floriane Blancke, and more.

The events, which are part of National Harp Day, are in association with Harp Ireland/Cruit Éireann. Admission is free. Advanced booking is advised for some events. Contact 091 - 532460 or www.galwaycitymuseum.ie
