Galway Hospice will hold its 14th annual Galway Memorial Walk on Sunday 8th September 2019.

The Memorial Walk will begin at 12noon from Claddagh Hall and take its traditional route to Blackrock and back, a distance of 6.5km. The Memorial Walk is Galway Hospice’s biggest annual fundraising event. Since it began in 2006, it has raised over €2million to help maintain essential Hospice services. Those who take part in the Memorial Walk do so in memory of a family member, friend or work colleague who has passed away, with many wearing the name of their loved one on special personalised t-shirts provided by the Hospice.

“The Memorial Walk has become a very special and deeply personal event for the people of Galway,” says Charlene Hurley, Director of Fundraising & Communications at Galway Hospice. “Each year, people come together on the first Sunday in September to walk in memory of loved ones, to wear t-shirts bearing their names, to remember and celebrate their lives.”

“They walk to remember while supporting Galway Hospice. The Hospice needs to raise €2million each year to ensure the free delivery of its Community Palliative Care, Day Care and Bereavement Support Services. The Memorial Walk is the Hospice’s biggest annual fundraising event and it is vital to ensuring the highest quality of care and support for patients living with life-limiting illness in Galway.”

Anyone wishing to take part in this year’s Memorial Walk must register in advance. Participants who would like a personalised t-shirt must register before Friday 24th August.
