Two Galway breweries among the line-up at Ireland’s largest craft brew gathering

Bridewell Brewery from Clifden and Galway Hooker from Oranmore are among the exhibitors for The Alltech Craft Brews and Food Fair 2019, Ireland’s largest craft drinks gathering, which will take place in the Convention Centre Dublin next month.

The fair, taking place from March 14 to 16, will showcase more than 300 craft beers, spirits, and ciders from the country's leading drinks producers, in a three-day celebration of Ireland’s craft brews industry.

Bridewell Brewery in Clifden produces two core draught beers — Bridewell Blond Ale and Bridewell Red Ale. The brewery draws on the rich history of its locality, as the ‘bride well’ or ‘old gaol’ was built more than 200 years ago as part of an effort by the British government to tame the area which was rife with smuggling and illegal alcohol production. Focusing on localised distribution, Bridewell is served in 16 establishments in County Galway, including several in Clifden.

Bridewell will have two beers available at the fair, Bridewell Blond Ale, with a Pilsner malt base and a Belgian blond influence; and Bridewell Red, a dry, light-bodied, Irish red ale with roasted barley character and a twist of Belgian dubbel.

A pioneer of the modern craft beer movement, famous for its innovation and quality, Galway Hooker has developed a reputation as one of Ireland’s leading breweries. Founded in 2006 by first cousins Aidan Murphy and Ronan Brennan, Galway Hooker is the oldest existing brewery in Connacht.

In 2014, the business expanded into a new state of the art facility in Oranmore, making it one of Ireland’s largest and best equipped craft breweries. Aidan Murphy, co-founder, holds a master’s degree in brewing and distilling and is a qualified member of the Institute of Brewing and Distilling. Galway Hooker will have its core range of six beers available at the fair.
