Galway Africans to re-enact Christ’s passion on the city streets

One of Galway’s leading African churches, the Faith Christian Fellowship, will re-enact Christ’s passion on the streets of Galway on Good Friday.

The re-enactment will begin in Eyre Square at 1pm and will proceed through the streets towards Bohermore and the FCF’s church, The Faith Arena, at 4B, Lisbon Estate, Tuam Road. The part of Jesus will be played by Binaya Rimal.

This annual event is one of the highlights of JCI and the children of Galway’s calendar! The event involves local children bringing their “extra” Easter Eggs to Masses at Barna, Claregalway, Knocknacarra, Mervue and Renmore. UHG to slash aggressive cancer treatment budget to address deficit

University Hospital Galway has been forced to slash its budget for aggressive cancer treatment for end of life patients by €3 million in a bid to address the €22 million overall budget deficit it is facing this year, a local politician has claimed.

Fine Gael senator Fidelma Healy Eames says this reduction is one of many which will impact on vital services at the west’s flagship hospital. Others cuts include €1m to orthopaedics (eg, 200 hip operations, knee procedures, etc), €1m to prosthetic provision, eg, braces, etc, €1/2m to laboratory tests, €1/2m leading to extended theatre closures which will mean emergency procedures only and a 50 per cent reduction in gynaecological services.
