Eyre Square Dental to offer free dental care for Dentistry from the Heart Day

Thu, Apr 25, 2024

Visiting the dentist may not be high on people's agenda but your dental health is very important to your overall wellbeing, with many studies showing the links between dental problems and more serious issues such as heart disease and cancer. On Wednesday, May 1, Eyre Square Dental will host its third Dentistry from the Heart day which offers members of the public a choice of a filling, an extraction, or a cleaning free of charge.

The concept of Dentistry from the Heart originated in Florida almost 20 years ago, with the goal being to give back to those who cannot afford dental care. This day is one which the staff at Eyre Square Dental look forward to, as it’s a way to use their skills and talent to give back to the community. With individuals and parents having to make tough decisions on household costs and sometimes having to sacrifice their dental health, this is the team's chance to provide some assistance. The team of four dentists and three hygienists are looking forward to providing free dentistry on May 1 and are hoping to hit their target to provide free care for 100 patients.

The end of an era

Wed, Apr 24, 2024

The Ó Máille family originally came from Portacarron near Oughterard which accounted for their Irish speaking background. Galway & Roscommon ETB core values take centre stage at national education symposium

Wed, Apr 24, 2024

More than 200 principals and teachers from across Ireland’s 16 education and training boards, including Galway & Roscommon ETB, who gathered at a national symposium 'Let’s Talk Ethos' in Athlone this week to reflect on their core values, have heard that the previously “uncontested” core value of equality can be the most challenging to implement.

Education & Training Boards Ireland (ETBI) commissioned research on how schools are currently experiencing the ethos agreed for Ireland’s almost 300 community national schools and community colleges under the patronage of education and training boards (ETBs). While the overall findings were very positive, with clear evidence of the core values of excellence in education, care, equality, community, and respect in action across the sector, the research highlighted that the most challenging core value to implement is ‘equality’.

Our fortified city

Thu, Apr 18, 2024

The town of Galway was virtually an independent city state, self-contained politically and ecclesiastically, relying on its own resources as it was cut off from the central English authority until the 16th century. Then, the Tudors began to extend their influence westwards so that the city gradually came totally under their dominion. The real symbol of that growing influence was the fortifications, four in number, raised to defend this all-important location against all enemies, notably France and Spain.
