The Western Region of C.I.P.D. are hosting a programme of events on September 14 at the Harbour Hotel, Galway at 6pm. The overall theme for the forthcoming year ”Innovative HR – Towards Recovery”, is apt as despite the challenges that businesses currently face in the practice of Human Resource Management, there is emerging evidence that the HR function has and is playing a significant role in managing the business. NUI Galway moves up world table of top universities

For the third consecutive year, NUI Galway has increased its position in the QS World University Rankings. Rising 11 places to 232nd in this year’s ranking, NUI Galway is one of only two Irish universities to move up the league table.

JobFit Roadshow to hit Galway next week

New O Cuiv initiative will require unemployed to do community work

Fianna Fail TD for Galway West and Minister for Social Protection, Eamon O Cuiv has anounced new proposals which will require 10,000 social welfare claimants to complete community work in return for their social welfare payments.

Minister O Cuiv says the initiative could begin as soon as next month and he says it will be welcomed by people who are genuinely looking for employment, and those who are not will vanish from the social welfare system. “Those who are genuinely unemployed will be absolutely delighted and those who aren’t will disappear,” he says.

Social media bootcamp for local businesses

Cara Cabs in Eyre Square have arranged a 12 month contract with GMIT Technical Institute Students Union to serve all of their students transport requirements for 2010/11.

Cara Cabs have been associated with the GMIT Students Union for approximately 10 years now and both parties have built up a solid working relationship. In the interest of student safety, Cara Cabs devised a system called ‘Don’t Walk Home Alone.’ This was done in conjunction with the GMIT Students Union, and this model has now been successfully copied by a number of other institutions nationwide.
