TERRI HOOLEY, the man who signed the Undertones and released their single ‘Teenage Kicks’, the man who nurtured the Northern Irish punk scene, has called The HardChargers “my kind of feckin’ band”.
Given that Them are Hooley’s favourite group, the death before dishonour blues of Belfast’s The HardChargers, with its gritty, rough’n’ready rhythms, tough guys vocals, muscular guitar, and swampy, Southern Rock flashes, the great man’s endorsement should be no surprise. The trio are coming to Galway to play Monroe’s Backstage Bar on Thursday November 20 at 10pm. Their live shows feature original songs as well as arrangements of blues classics by Son House, Elmore James, and Lonnie Mack.
A blistering three-piece, The HardChargers have played alongside Bob Log III, The Reverend Peyton’s Big Damn Band, Hayseed Dixie, The Waterboys, and Alabama3. They have been described as “dirty blues from Belfast”. Perhaps this songs sums them up best:
