A new private clinic in Galway is providing urgent mental health consultations for people experiencing mild to moderate mental health difficulties, and who have not engaged in any self-harm.
The service, provided by FCK Innovations Ltd, is available to adolescents aged 14 and over, adults, and the elderly.
Mental health in Ireland has become a national emergency, with lengthy waiting lists for those seeking help, and many people turning to overcrowded emergency departments requiring urgent mental health care.
Galway Urgent Mental Health Care Clinic is an ideal interim private service for those who are under the care of the public mental health service. The clinic provides immediate, confidential mental health support in a private, calm environment.
All consultations include treatment, a prescription, follow up phone call, a letter to the patient's GP for continuity of care, a referral if needed to specialist mental health services or emergency services, a care plan and safety plan if needed, along with recommendations and resources as required.
When service users of the public specialist mental health service opt to use the clinic, the care team will correspond with the patient's specialist community mental health team directly to keep them up to date for continuity of care.
The clinic also acts as a bridge between GPs, specialist mental health services, and emergency services.
Specialist community mental health team service users are welcome to attend. Dr Faraz Khan is well known in the community mental health sector.
If you have engaged in self harm, or intend to harm yourself with the intention of ending your life, your should attend your nearest emergency department immediately, or call emergency services on 112 or 999.
