One of the most influential and celebrated traditional Irish bands of our time, Lúnasa, will perform at Monroe’s Live this Saturday, November 15, with doors open at 7:30pm for this fully seated show.
The performance is part of a short tour that includes dates in Ireland and Norway, before the group heads to the United States in December for an East Coast tour.
For members of Lúnasa, the Monroe’s show holds a special place, describing it as “one of our favourite gigs anywhere.”
They are looking forward to reconnecting with Galway audiences and sharing the stage’s lively atmosphere once again.
The Irish leg centres around their appearance at The William Kennedy Piping Weekend in Armagh, with added stops in Belfast and in Oslo for the Norse Gaels Folk Fest.
These legends of Irish music will highlight their decades of experience that have earned them a global following from Glastonbury to Carnegie Hall.
The band recently recorded 10 new tracks live at the Taku Taku club in Kyoto, Japan, showing their continued innovation in the genre.
Standing at the forefront of contemporary Irish music, Lúnasa has redefined the boundaries of traditional Irish sound, harnessing fiddle, pipes, flute, bass, accordion, and guitar.
Named after an ancient Celtic harvest festival in honour of the Irish god Lugh, the band was formed in 1997 by members of some of the most renowned Irish groups of the previous decade.
The current line-up features Trevor Hutchinson, the famed bassist from The Waterboys; Cillian Vallely, a piper known for his work with Riverdance and collaborations with Bruce Springsteen; Kevin Crawford, one of Ireland’s most respected flute players and a member of Moving Cloud; Seán Smyth, an award-winning fiddler who has performed with Donal Lunny’s Coolfin; Colin Farrell, a multiple award-winning fiddler who has toured with Project West; and Ed Boyd, a guitarist who has made a name for himself in the British folk scene with bands such as Flook, Kate Rusby, and Cara Dillon.
With more than 250,000 records sold and more than 2,000 shows performed across 36 countries, this is a rare opportunity to experience Lúnasa on home soil at the Monroe’s Live venue.
Described as ‘Celtic royalty’ and ‘the hottest Irish acoustic band on the planet’ by critics, Lúnasa will take the stage at Monroe’s Live on Saturday, November 15, with doors open at 7:30pm.
