Fresh from a series of performances across Britain, the Red Hot Funky Peppers return to Monroe’s Live on Friday, November 21, at 10pm, to perform one of the most iconic live shows in rock history.
For the first time in Galway, the popular tribute band will play the full set from the Red Hot Chili Peppers’ legendary 2003 Live at Slane Castle concert, including the incredible jams between John Frusciante and Flea.
Fronted by Martin McIntyre on lead vocals, the line-up also features Andre Carvalho on lead guitar, Hugo Oliveira on bass and Jonatan Krasuski on drums.
Red Hot Funky Peppers, formerly known as Red Hot Copy Peppers, have been performing for over a decade.
The group are bringing their Slane Castle celebration to Galway for the first time, having already staged it in London, Belfast, Dublin and Cork.
Lead vocalist Martin McIntyre has a personal connection to the 2003 gig as he experienced it firsthand. A lifelong fan, he was among the massive crowd that filled the grounds of Slane Castle that summer.
“I was actually at the concert and managed to make my way into the pit on the day,” he recalls. “The concert was just as incredible as it looks on the DVD.”
That memory has become a defining one for him. Now, it has come full circle, as he prepares to lead the Red Hot Funky Peppers in a full recreation of that same show.
For him, this performance is more than a tribute. It is a chance to relive an unforgettable moment in music history, and share it with audiences who remember the energy of Slane 2003, as well as those discovering it for the first time.
“We regularly perform special shows like this,” he says. “Our Slane show is a bit different as we’re recreating an actual concert. Not just any concert though, the Slane concert is iconic for all RHCP fans around the world.”
For the band, the extent of the Red Hot Chili Peppers’ catalogue continues to inspire. Speaking about the upcoming show, Martin reflects on their ongoing passion for celebrating the music of the RHCP and their dedication to keeping each performance unique.
“We love performing Chili Pepper tunes. All four of us are huge fans,” he continues. “Red Hot Chili Peppers have over 42 years of material to choose from, so we are constantly changing our set around to bring in different tunes. It keeps things fresh, for us, and the audience.
“We never play the same set twice. We’ve done over 80 different Chili Pepper songs over the years and even still we get requests for songs that we’ve never performed.”
The Red Hot Funky Peppers have a long history with Monroe’s Live, having performed many times over the years, and their high-energy shows are always a highlight for fans.
