Shaun Ryder fronted the Happy Mondays and Black Grape

Famed lead singer of the Happy Mondays and Black Grape, Shaun Ryder, will appear at Monroe’s Live this Friday, November 14, as part of his new spoken word tour, with doors open at 8pm.

The tour supports his latest book Happy Mondays – and Fridays and Saturdays and Sundays for an evening of conversation, reflection, and humour from one of Manchester music’s most distinctive figures.

Known for his sharp wit, he will explore stories from his early days in the Madchester scene through to the present, tracing a life lived at the centre of music, chaos, and reinvention.

This wild man of rock has also featured on numerous TV shows including Celebrity Gogglebox, and I’m A Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here. Fans say he is Britpop’s answer to WB Yeats.

The talk at Monroe’s is set to be a night of what Ryder describes as “a carnival of excess, wild tales, and improbable truths.”

He first came to prominence in the late 1980s as the lyrical force behind Happy Mondays, a band whose mix of dance rhythms and indie rock defined the Madchester movement, and paved the way for the indie era.

Their sound, typified by tracks such as ‘Step On’ and ‘Hallelujah’, captured the colour and unpredictability of a generation of British nightlife and youth culture.

Now in his sixties, Ryder continues to embrace his creative life with renewed focus.

The turbulence and excess of earlier decades have given way to a sense of contentment and perspective, while his enthusiasm for music remains undiminished.

His spoken word tour reflects that balance, part reflection, part celebration, offering audiences a candid and often funny insight into a life that helped shape modern British music.

Don’t miss your chance to see Shaun Ryder at Monroe’s Live on Friday, November 14, with general admission tickets priced at €33, VIP tickets at €50 including a goodie bag, and meet and greet tickets at €75.
