Nine writers from Galway are shortlisted for the prestigious 2025 An Post Book Awards.
Winners will be announced at a ceremony at Dublin’s Convention Centre on Thursday, November 27, and this 20th edition of the national award will be broadcast by RTÉ One on December 11.
Nine Galwegian writers are listed in a number of categories.
Elaine Feeney has been shortlisted for the Library Association of Ireland’s Author of the Year. Her latest fiction, Let Me Go Mad in My Own Way is also nominated for the Eason Novel of the Year award, alongside John Patrick McHugh’s Fun and Games.
Patricia Forde’s Letters to a Monster - illustrated by Sarah Warburton – has been listed in the Children’s Book of the Year, junior category. In the Young Adult fiction list, Méabh McDonnell’s Any Way You Slice It appears, and Catherine Doyle’s The Rebel and the Rose.
In the Irish language category, there is An Bhlaosc sa mBois, from Michéal Ó Conghaile, and Bódléar by Darach Ó Scolaí.
Miriam Hussey’s Light Up, published by Gill, is shortlisted in the Bookstation Lifestyle Book of the Year section.
Old Parish: Notes on Hurling, by Ciarán Murphy, is listed The Last Word Listeners’ Choice Award category.
Meanwhile, Charlie Byrne's Bookshop, in Galway city, has been listed as one of six An Post Bookshops of the Year.
To tie in with the announcement of the An Post Irish Book Awards shortlist, the public are being asked to have their say by voting online.
All voters will be entered into a prize draw to win one of five €100 National Book Token vouchers. Voters may cast their votes until Sunday, November 16.
