New voices sought by Choral Association

Tenors and bass in demand

Galway Choral Association is recruiting new singers to join them for rehearsals at St Patrick’s Band Hall on Sundays at 7.30pm.

New members are welcomed in September and February, with prospective choristers invited to attend up to three rehearsals to see if GCA is the right fit.

Led by musical director, Norman Duffy, GCA is preparing for an exciting performance of the Faure Requiem and Schubert’s Mass in G. These popular works are an opportunity for singers at all levels to develop their skills, and perform in a large-scale choral production, accompanied by orchestra.

“We welcome inquiries from people who are new to choral singing and former singers alike,” says GCA committee member, Fiona Caufield. “Singing in a group is not only fulfilling, but also greatly beneficial for mental and physical well-being. While prior choral experience and ability to read music are helpful, they are not prerequisites. We are especially recruiting new singers for the tenor and bass sections.”

The Galway Choral Association is an established choir in the heart of Galway City, with deep community ties. “We pride ourselves on our expertise in organizing concerts and participation in community events,” Fiona Caufield continues. “Our Director, Norman, and accompanist, Dympna O'Byrne, are accomplished musicians, dedicated to musical excellence.”

Duffy is particularly enthusiastic about the opportunity to work with an orchestra. “The support we have received from Davy has enabled us to plan with certainty for the year, and to engage outstanding musicians for this performance”.

The season begins in September 2025.
