The power of the human voice will be the core of Music for Galway’s 44th international concert season, titled Breathe, to begin next month.

Highpoints of the autumn/winter element include a performance of Handel’s Messiah in St Nicholas’ Church, a visit by the world-renowned ensemble Stile Antico, and the Irish National Opera’s Young Singers to display their range with Mozart’s arias.

“As the season took shape, we realised that vocal music was at the core of the programme,” said Finghin Collins, Artistic Director of Music for Galway, at the season’s launch party in PorterShed a Dó. “We embraced this, realising that the last time we put a particular focus on the voice is already a decade ago. I am excited to present this season of concerts celebrating the most human of instruments in all its diversity.”

Next spring, before heading to the Wigmore Hall, Irish tenor Gavan Ring and pianist Fiachra Garvey will bring a programme structured around Vaughan Williams’ Songs of Travel to Galway in February, and the annual Music for Good Friday Concert, on April 3, features the Galway choir Collegium, this year performing Heinrich Schütz’ Matthäus-Passion, directed by Mark Duley.

On Friday March 6, audiences shall all take a deep breath with the much-anticipated visit of the Wigmore Soloists with clarinettist Michael Collins at the lead.

The 2025/6 season marks the beginning of a new sponsorship deal for Music for Galway, which receives funding from both of Galway’s local authorities, and a wide range of corporate sponsors.

“We are delighted to announce a three-year sponsorship deal with Aerogen, a Galway company that is helping people all over the world to breathe” said Anna Lardi, chief executive of Music for Galway. “It is the generosity of local supporters and corporate sponsors that truly enables us to go beyond the mere presentation of concerts. This particular sponsorship will allow us to extend the community aspect of MfG’s activities.”
