Mary Whelan has always loved flowers, but hates to see them fade.
During the pandemic, the Ardrahan-native began teaching herself artificial flowers arranging, and this home hobby has now grown into a thriving online business, Maison Bloom, with free delivery in Galway.
Based in Taylors Hill in Galway city, Mary is now looking to expand her business with pop-ups, market stalls, seasonal pieces and account-work all in the pipeline.
“I began making my own artificial arrangements at the kitchen table, and what started as a hobby has now become Maison Bloom. I create handmade hat boxes and wreaths that never wilt, don’t need watering, and won’t attract bugs,” she says. The mother-of-two admits her hobby-cum-business is slowly taking over her house, and as orders increase she will have to rope in the family too.
Arrangements from Maison Bloom will never wilt or wither, and they need no water or pruning. They are of course completely pollen-free, making them an ideal gift for people in hospital, allergy sufferers, and anyone who loves flowers without the fuss. Arrangements cost from €35 to €75, and Mary is currently preparing for the busy Christmas season with winter wreathes.
