The 31st Lady Gregory – Yeats Autumn Gathering has announced the inaugural ‘Lady Gregory Awards’ for the University of Galway.

Five prestigious awards will be presented to outstanding students at the University of Galway to attend this year’s Lady Gregory – Yeats Autumn Gathering at Coole Park & Thoor Ballylee, Co. Galway, from September 26 to 28, 2025.

Now in its 31st year, the Gathering draws people together from all corners of the world: academics and artists, locals, historians, writers, Lady Gregory’s family, readers and literary figures, to engage with the major legacies of Lady Gregory and Nobel Laureate William Butler Yeats in the shaping of modern Ireland and its world-renowned literature, theatre, culture and politics.

James Persse is the great-great-nephew of Lady Gregory and the great-grandson of Harry Persse of Roxborough and Woodville House. James has very generously offered to cover the cost of the five student awards.

This prestigious award will enable the selected students to attend all talks, performances, tours and social events in the awe-inspiring locations of Lady Gregory’s home at the Seven Woods of Coole Park, and Yeats’s mystical tower Thoor Ballylee.

The aim is to engage young minds in the significance of Gregory and Yeats in Ireland’s cultural development and to connect them with the leading theatre-makers, writers and literary scholars of our time.

The awards will be presented at the Lady Gregory – Yeats Autumn Gathering, Coole Park, on Saturday, September 27.
