The Connacht Hotel once again played host to one of Galway’s most cherished Race Week traditions – the annual Racing for Rosabel charity luncheon.
Now firmly established as a highlight of Galway Races week, Racing for Rosabel is a unique event that blends fashion, fun, and fundraising – all in support of a cause that holds a special place in the hearts of many across the country. The event raises funds for Rosabel’s Rooms, a Galway-born child loss project that has grown into a national initiative in partnership with the Irish Hospice Foundation. It offers support, compassion, and practical assistance to bereaved families throughout Ireland.
This year’s gathering was nothing short of spectacular. Guests were welcomed with a stylish drinks reception and live music, before enjoying a mouth-watering three-course luncheon in the elegant surrounds of The Connacht Hotel. Racing fans were treated to expert insights and top tips from some of Ireland’s leading jockeys before being whisked off to Ballybrit Racecourse for a thrilling day at the races.
One of the standout elements of the afternoon was the fiercely competitive Best Dressed Competitions, with an incredible €7,000 worth of prizes awarded across Best Dressed Lady, Best Dressed Gent, and Best Headpiece. The style stakes were high, with judging overseen by an expert fashion panel featuring Jenny Buckley, Gillian Duggan, and Fiona Morgan Coleman. The event was beautifully hosted by broadcaster Clare McKenna, adding charm and warmth to the occasion.
Speaking at the event, David O’Connor, general manager of The Connacht Hotel, said: “Racing for Rosabel is about more than just style and fun – it is about community, remembrance, and support. We are honoured to host this special day again and help raise funds for such a meaningful cause. It is a highlight of the calendar for us and the perfect way to kick off this special week.”
As Race Week festivities unfold across the city, Racing for Rosabel remains a poignant and joyful reminder of the power of community, style, and heartfelt support.
