New website for Galway Contact

Galway Contact, founded in 1981 and probably one of the longest serving local voluntary organisations in Galway, is delighted to announce the launch of its new Website ……galwaycontact.ie

The organisation is indebted to Outlier, a digital content company based in Galway, for designing and setting up the website at no cost to Galway Contact.

The new website makes the services for the older citizens more accessible:-

To the potential clients and families who can view how to access the volunteer befriending services for themselves or an elderly loved one or how to obtain a personal alarm for someone who might need help when on their own or how to avail of its social outings and activities.

To health care professionals, social workers, public health nurses and therapy services who can access our referral forms online or applications for personal alarms.

To our volunteers or prospective volunteers, who can download our form and garda vetting forms in order to apply to join as a volunteer. They welcome volunteers to help them across the organisation and have many roles to fit the skill mix of a volunteer.

"To organisations and individuals looking to support a local NGO located in Bearna, we have provided a DONATE facility on the website and in our latest news section we highlight our activities such as coffee mornings to enable our community to support us in any way they see fit.

"We are a small organisation with only one full time and two part time staff who coordinate all the activities, interview and support volunteers, transport clients and keep the organisation functioning with a funding of €54,000 from the HSE and approximately €7000 from Pobal ( a Government agency ). The trustees and Board of Management and all our supporters give freely of their time and skills.

"With these modest funds and what we can raise ourselves, we support some 80 to 90 older people each week including weekly visits provided by our 60 volunteers, social outings such as lunch and Friday morning clubs. In addition we process between four to five hundred applications to Pobal for over 65s to get personal alarms giving them and their families peace of mind.

"We would encourage the people of Galway to take a look at our website and familiarise yourselves with our services," they said.
