Shaskeen and D-Mode this weekend

Trad legends Shaskeen and a tribute to the sounds of Depeche Mode will top the bill at Monroe’s this weekend.

On Friday, May 9, a special seated performance by traditional Irish group Shaskeen takes place at the venue.

Formed in London in 1970 by Limerick native Tom Cussen, Shaskeen grew into one of Ireland’s most respected trad ensembles after re-forming in Galway.

With a line-up of eight seasoned musicians, including Cussen on banjo and mandolin, the band features a wealth of talent across vocals, flute, fiddle, concertina, and more.

Audiences can expect an evening steeped in tradition, with lively reels, jigs, and heartfelt ballads that reflect the band’s decades-long journey.

Special guests on the night include Gerry Hanley, Carl Hession, and friends.

Tickets €25. Doors at 8pm.

This Saturday, May 10, fans of synth-pop and alternative music can catch D-Mode, a tribute to Depeche Mode, with doors at 9pm.

The band pays homage to the pioneering British group, covering a setlist that includes classics like ‘Just Can’t Get Enough’, ‘Enjoy the Silence’ and ‘Personal Jesus’.

D-Mode captures the band’s signature dark, electronic sound, offering a chance to relive the energy and atmosphere of Depeche Mode’s influential catalogue.

Tickets €15.

For night owls, resident DJ Macca will take over at the Backstage venue from 11pm, keeping the party going with a mix of crowd-pleasing anthems.
