Human Rights central to Galway's Robinson Archive

The records and archive of former president Mary Robinson will be the subject of a free public lecture in the Harbour Hotel this Monday, April 7, at 8pm.

Ireland’s first female head of state, Mary Robinson (80 ) remains a prominent voice for social and environmental justice. She has made real change through her legal work, as well as through her contributions to policy and advocacy, nationally and internationally.

The former president’s archive is held at the University of Galway, and a talk on the collection – organised by the Galway Archaeological and Historical Society – will be presented by college archivist, Niamh Ní Charra who chairs the Archives and Records Association of Ireland, and co-hosts the podcast series Archive Nation. She is also an award-winning traditional musician and composer.

The substantial archive consists of material relating to Robinson’s six-decade long career, including her time as a barrister, President of Ireland, the United Nations’ High Commissioner for Human Rights, UN Special Envoy for Climate Change, and founder of ‘Realizing Rights – The Ethical Globalization Initiative’.?
