Three of the world’s top darts professionals, including world number one, Luke Humphries, will take part in a thrilling event, A Night at the Darts, at Monroe’s Live on Friday, February 21, at 7:30pm.
Current world number one and 2024 PDC world champion, Luke Humphries, six-time major winner, Johnny Clayton, and the popular South African, Devon Peterson, will go head-to-head with local players.
Proceeds from the event will go to Claddagh Watch, a vital volunteer organisation, focused on water safety and suicide prevention along Galway’s waterways.
Leading the line-up is world number one Luke Humphries, nicknamed ‘Cool Hand Luke’. He boasts an impressive 21 PDC titles, including the World Matchplay, PDC World Masters, and back-to-back Players Championship Finals.
His accolades also include victories at the 2023 World Grand Prix, the 2023 Grand Slam, and the 2024 World Cup of Darts.
Humphries added the 2024 New Zealand Darts Masters title to his growing list of achievements.
Joining him is Welsh darts ace Johnny Clayton, known as ‘The Ferret.’ Ranked world number six, Clayton made headlines in 2021 when he clinched his first major singles title at The Masters, paving the way for a triumphant run in the Premier League the same year.
He also secured victories at the World Series Finals and the World Grand Prix in 2021. Representing Wales, Clayton has twice won the PDC World Cup of Darts alongside Gerwyn Price.
Completing the trio is South African darts star and Sky Sports pundit Devon Petersen, the ‘African Warrior.’
Petersen has qualified for the PDC World Championship on seven occasions, reaching the last 16 in 2014, 2019, and 2021 and is known for his charisma and crowd-pleasing style.
Event organisers Hughie O'Donnell and Niall Wynne are enthusiastic about bringing such elite players to Galway.
“We said we’d bring the big bill to Galway, and it’s incredible to have them all in one spot for one night,” they said.
“It’s a chance to get the VIP treatment, enjoy a fantastic night, and meet some of the best players in the world. Monroe’s generously provided the venue, and we’re grateful for their continued support of Claddagh Watch.”
Attendees can expect opportunities for photos, autographs, and mingling with the players after the matches.
Local dart players will participate through sponsorship cards, helping cover event costs while maximising the charitable donation.
Arthur Carr of Claddagh Watch expressed gratitude for the event's support.
“Thanks to them for thinking of us and to Monroe’s for being such wonderful supporters since day one,” said Carr.
“Since our first patrol on July 5th, 2019, we've dealt with over 534 major incidents and conducted 20 rescues. We recently surpassed 20,000 volunteer hours, a testament to the dedication of our team.”
Carr highlighted the importance of fundraising events like this, noting the costs involved in equipping volunteers with essential gear and providing ongoing training in first aid and mental health support.
Tickets for A Night at the Darts on Friday, February 21, at 7:30pm at Monroe’s Live are €40 and can be purchased at www.Ticketstop.live and through the www.monroes.ie website.
