SONGS BY Brahms, Strauss, Mendelssohn Schubert, Fauré, and Debussy, as well as opera arias by Handel and Mozart, will be heard at a concert to raise funds for children with special needs.
Entitled Into The Heart, it will feature the soprano Helen Hancock, accompanied by Mark Keane on piano. The concert will take place in the auditorium of Galway Community College, Moneenageisha on Friday February 21 at 8pm. The programme will concentrate on themes of night, dreams, and love.
All proceeds from the concert will go to Voices for Galway, a branch of Down Syndrome Galway, which fund raises to provide additional speech therapy for children with special needs, where early intervention is so important. Helen has described this charity as being "close to my heart", adding: "I love using my own voice to raise much needed funds to help children to find their voice."
Helen, from Oranmore, is in her fifth year of vocal studies with tenor, Prof Owen Gilhooly at the Midwest Vocal Academy, Limerick. Mark, from Galway, recently completed doctoral studies at the Royal Irish Academy of Music/Trinity College Dublin.
Admission is €12/10. See www.helenhancocksoprano.com
