Geographer Susan Hegarty is fascinated with how people have used natural resources down through the ages. In Mayo there is a direct link between the natural landscape and a local industry.

A large number of community buildings, local authority premises, homes and sports facilities in Mayo have been approved for funding under the 2014 Better Energy Communities and Area Projects 2014. A total of €700,000 has been allocated to projects in Mayo by the Energy Authority of Ireland for these projects which will be carried out on buildings in Ballina, Erris, Castlebar, Mayo Abbey and Ballycastle.
