Ballina and Castlebar have ranked exceedingly low in an Irish Business Against Litter League — in fact, the Mayo towns were the worst in Connacht in the Anti-Litter League results which were released this week.

Judge does not impose custodial sentence on youth who robbed nun

Judge Conal Gibbons, convicted and fined a youth who stole €100 from a nun in Ballina District Court this week. The previous week Judge Gibbons had remanded the youth in St Patrick’s Institution for a week, so he could hear from the probation service which had been working with the youth previously.

Oral hearing on Corrib gas pipeline commences

Shell E&P Ireland Limited has released a statement in which it says it looks forward to participating fully in An Bord Pleanála’s resumed oral hearing into the Corrib onshore pipeline.

Following the board’s request for further information, SEPIL submitted a revised environmental impact statement under the Strategic Infrastructure Act, seeking planning permission to build a 4.9km tunnel under Sruwaddacon Bay, to carry the onshore pipeline from the landfall at Glengad towards the gas processing terminal at Bellanaboy.
