Town mayor ‘accusing HSE of telling lies’

Newly elected Mayor of Castlebar, Independent councillor Michael Kilcoyne, has accused the Health Service Executive of “telling lies” in relation to a vast reduction in hours being allocated for cleaning services at Mayo General Hospital. According to Cllr Kilcoyne, who is also the vice chairman of the Consumer Association of Ireland, he has been contacted by ISS contract cleaning staff at the hospital who have been informed that their hours are to be cut by 12.5 per cent; some 72 hours in total a week. After the HSE refuted these allegations, Cllr Kilcoyne is calling on the health authority to “be honest”.

Man carried gun for protection against Eastern European gang

A man who carried a hand gun for protection from a group of Eastern European criminals, who he claimed wanted him to join their crime organisation, was convicted and fined €750 and the forfeiture of the gun and ammunition was ordered at Claremorris District Court this week. Rytis Lukosevicius, 39 Ashford Court, Claremorris, pleaded guilty to the possession of the hand gun and the ammunition.

One year disqualification for man involved in accident

A retired 83-year-old Charlestown man who failed to remain at the scene of an accident, was banned from driving for a year at Claremorris District Court sitting in Kiltimagh this week. Louis Brooker, Main Street, Charlestown, pleaded guilty to the charges in court.

Castlebar taxi driver before court for taxi regulation offences

The Commission for Taxi Regulation issued proceedings against a Castlebar taxi driver for three breaches against the taxi regulation act for failing to operate a taxi metre when in hire; failing to provide a receipt; and charging more than the maximum fare when in hire, which led to the driver appearing before Castlebar District Court on Wednesday.
