A 20-year-old man who failed a roadside breath test, took off at speed, rammed a Garda patrol car and was then chased by three patrol cars, was before Castlebar District Court on Wednesday where Judge Mary Devins sentenced him to jail for three months.

Castlebar taxi driver convicted for overcharging

Taxi driver Seamus Canning, Garryduff Court, Castlebar, was convicted and fined €100 at Castlebar District Court on Wednesday for overcharging after the Commission for Taxi Regulation issued proceedings for three breaches against the taxi regulation act, with Judge Mary Devins saying that while the prosecution was legitimately brought, a “very, very, very large sledgehammer” was used to crack a “very, very, very small peanut”.

A married father of four, whose children range in age from nine to one, was given a suspended sentence at Ballina District Court on Tuesday after he was detected cultivating two cannabis plants as well as having cannabis resin in his possession.

Drunk man told garda to mind his own business

A Ballina man who was in an intoxicated state in a public area and told a garda to mind his own business was before Ballina District Court on Tuesday.

Garda John Barrett received a complaint at 3.30am on Saturday March 7 that Joseph Muldoon, 26 St Patrick’s Estate, Ballina, was in an intoxicated state on Trawley Terrace, Ballina. Garda Barrett directed that Muldoon leave the area, however he was told to “mind my own business”.

The shuttle bus service serving Ireland West Airport Knock has been added to a list of routes to be axed as Bus Éireann confirmed it is forging ahead with a controversial cost saving plan hitting 99 routes nationwide.
