Judge Mary Devins gave a Polish man one chance after convicting him of driving without insurance. Slawomir Kozoil, Hazel Hills, Ballyhaunis pleaded guilty in Ballyhaunis District Court this week to driving without insurance.

Fine for man who jumped out of car in front of patrol car

A 23-year-old unemployed Swinford man who jumped out of a car that was being pursued by gardaí and almost caused an accident when he fell into the path of the Garda car, was fined a total of €375 in Ballyhaunis District Court this week.

Mayo customers being notified about gas cooker alert

The National Consumer Agency has put a call out to locate some 5,000 gas cookers which, in certain circumstances, can cause carbon monoxide poisoning if they are not used in accordance with the user instructions and the grill door is closed when the grill is in operation. There were 293 of these cookers sold in Mayo. For specified makes and models of gas cooker, with a separate oven and grill, operating the grill with the grill door closed can cause extremely dangerous levels of carbon monoxide to be produced, which can cause serious injury or death.

€750,000 worth of community schemes for Cill Chomáin

Funding for a number of new community improvement schemes for the Cill Chomain area was announced this week by Minister for Community, Rural, and Gaeltacht Affairs, Éamon Ó Cuív, and the Minister for Communications, Energy, and Natural Resources, Eamon Ryan. It is estimated that these projects will cost up to €750,000, which will be provided by several state bodies, including the Department of Community, Rural and Gaeltacht Affairs, Fáilte Ireland and Mayo County Council.

Better airport signage needed as tourists struggle to find IWAK

Fine Gael Deputy Michael Ring, spokesperson for community, rural, and Gaeltacht affairs, has called on Mayo County Council and the NRA to improve the signage for Ireland West Airport Knock.

“I have been contacted by both Mayo residents and visitors who expressed their concern about the signage for them travelling to and from the airport,” Dep Ring said. “Really what is creating a lot of confusion for tourists is the signage for Knock Shrine as many have presumed that is where the airport was located.

Major investment for Rossport College

A €339,000 extension to Coláiste Chomain, Rossport, has been announced today by Beverley Flynn TD. Deputy Flynn has received confirmation from the Minister for Education and Science, Batt O'Keeffe, that the Rossport College has been approved for the grant with immediate effect.
