Ballina man claims gardaí used excessive force

A 34-year-old bakery worker from Ballina has claimed before the High Court that his arm was broken when gardaí used excessive force to arrest and handcuff him. The incident happened during a disturbance outside a nightclub in which, he alleges, he was not involved, the Irish Times reported this week.

Expose West will feature up to 50 of the region’s most progressive companies which source and manufacture their own products locally. Councillors pay tribute to county manager at his final meeting

The elected members of Mayo County Council paid glowing tributes to departing county manager Des Mahon at his final meeting before he retired from his position. The Roscommon native who has held the position since July 1990 was given a standing ovation by those in the chamber when he spoke at the end of the meeting last Monday.

Protester gave undertaking in court not to protest

A Shell to Sea campaigner gave a sworn undertaking at Ballina District Court this week that he would not partake in any protests in relation to Shell to Sea until after September 2010, when a suspended sentence which was imposed on the Glenamoy man last year would expire.
